How We Created a 5-Star Airbnb

Author: Tammy Jackson

Okay, getting our Airbnb up and going was A LOT of work, and I was SO nervous! But then we got started, and we have loved it! What a blessing it has been! The foundation of this thing is our FAITH! It belongs to God. We are just stewards of it, and we want to do that well!

For starters, we wanted to create a space where our guests would feel at home. We’ve stayed at a lot of Airbnb’s, so we took our favorite things from the places we’ve stayed and incorporated them into our space. We also took note of the things we felt were lacking in other spaces and made sure we did better. I’m sharing with you the things we have done to create a 5-star Airbnb!

Colossians 3:23 says - Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others. So…

  1. We pray over every single guest! We pray for safety in their travels and that they will feel at home and safe in our space.

  2. We share our relationship with Jesus by leaving Christian reading material for our guests (booklets, devotional, etc.)

  3. Thank you note - We leave a thank you card thanking them for choosing our place for their stay and encouraging them to reach out if they have any needs or questions.

  4. Business cards - We leave business cards for them to take so they can remember us and how to reach out the next time they want to book a stay.

  5. Decor - We keep it simple. And we get compliments on decor all the time. I am leaving you links on this page for some of the decor, etc., we used.

    • Tip: Use washable rugs. This makes it so easy to keep them clean.

    • Keep the space clutter-free. It’s visually pleasant, and it’s easier to clean when you don’t have to clean around unnecessary items.

    • Use good lighting, especially in bathrooms.

  6. We provide plenty of towels and washcloths, and provide hooks for hanging them to dry.

  7. We provide a washer and dryer for convenience. Some guests use them, some don’t.

  8. We provide a generous starter supply of all the essentials - toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, pods for the washing machine and dryer sheets, pods for the dishwasher. Pods keep it simple without the mess of liquid detergent. We provide body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. We even leave a couple of new toothbrushes and toothpaste (just in case our guests forget their own).

  9. Snacks and bottled water - We like to provide these as a way to say thank you for being here.

  10. Desk (or dedicated workspace) - We used an antique desk that I painted for a cute and comfortable area to work from if needed.

  11. Magnetic notepad with a pen on the refrigerator (it’s the little things).

  12. Extra blankets and sheets in the bedrooms. And extra throw blankets in the living room.

  13. Luggage racks in each bedroom.

  14. Dressers in each bedroom.

  15. Hangers so guests can hang their clothes instead of leaving them in suitcases.

  16. Ironing board.

  17. Oscillating fan - for those that love to sleep with a fan on.

  18. We keep it CLEAN!

  19. We make a huge effort to respond quickly to messages and to be accommodating to requests when possible. Our guests are important to us!

Ultimately, our goal was to create a space that we would want to stay in ourselves. We appreciate our guests so much and have loved every minute of hosting an Airbnb!
